Green Light New Orleans

Location: New Orleans

Mission: To help low and middle income families and individuals make a switch from incandescent bulbs to energy efficient fluorescent lights (CFL).

Strategy: Volunteers go to homes of New Orleans residents and install the bulbs free of charge- “We change awareness as we change the bulbs, planting a seed that teaches participants that small changes can make a difference in combating the effects of global warming.”

Surfers Against Sewage

Location: United Kingdom

Mission: Our mission is to ensure that anyone who wishes to enjoy the water environment, whether as a year-round surfer or a summer time beach-goer, can do so without fear of sickness or long-term illness.

Goal: Spread awareness and implement protective laws

Accomplishments: Grew from a grass-roots organization to become a national voice.

Dump and Run

Location: Brookfield, MA.

Mission: Volunteer-run events recover recyclable items students hastily discard at the end of the school year and resell them to new students in the fall.

Goal: Build a network of universities which support and implement the Dump and Run program.

Accomplishments: Mnay national institutions are running a Dump and Run program.
